The TerraPi XL, is a mount kit that allows users to use their Raspberry Pi with a 3.5″ HDD. Using the existing mounting holes on the drive, the kit clips on to the drive and utilizes the HDD as the main body of the construction. The fan hat completes the assembly and secures the Pi on the drive. There is enough clearence on the bottom of the Pi to allow for cooling.
For better HDD stabilization, the TerraPi XL includes a set of “feet” that mount at the bottom of the drive. This provides better stability when the drive is positioned vertically.
It is very important to use your HDD with an external powered USB to SATA adapter. The 3.5″ HDD uses a lot of power and the power supply of the Pi is not able to properly provide enough for the drive to work. Failure to do so, can result in permanent damage to your board. The parts are manufactured from bio-degradable high quality material. They are RoHS compliant and will last for a very long time. They are produced using additive manufacturing process (3D printing). The kit comes complete with all mounting bolts and assembly instructions for your convenience.
The TerraPi XL can be used with or without a fan hat. In case you are using a Pi 4, it is reccomended that you use a fan and heatsink to better cool your board.
